Are you worried about the health and fitness of your child? We all want the best for our children, but some health experts have suggested that we may be letting them down. Are we doing enough to keep our kids healthy?
Sadly, there's quite a weight of evidence to suggest that we could be doing a lot more. A number of studies have looked at the rise in childhood obesity - a subject that could have real consequences for the health of future generations.
An obese child is more likely to have health problems early in life and there's a greater chance of these continuing for years to come. Indeed, there can be little doubt that bad habits formed at a young age are more likely to continue into later life.
Accepting that there may be a problem is clearly the first step. We need to step back and ask ourselves whether our children are as active as they could be. If not, then we need to look at the reasons behind their lack of activity.
As a very simplistic level, we may see that our children spend a lot of time playing on video games or watching television. It may look as though this is what they enjoy the most. Seeing things in these terms, it can seem difficult to imagine how we'll help them to change their behaviour.
Fortunately, the reality often differs from this view. While your children may like to play video games, is it really because they enjoy them more than anything else? Have you taken the time to show them just how much fun the alternatives can be?
There are plenty of exciting activities that they can take part in that will also help them to exercise. Spending some time showing them what's available is certainly worthwhile.
You might, for example, make use of a garden trampoline. Prices have fallen considerably in recent years and these pieces of equipment are a good example of how you can make exercise fun.
Even if you don't have success initially, it's certainly worth continuing to try. After all, what could be more important than the health of your children?
